CANUCKS WATCH PARTY AT GRETA BAR YVR

This past Thursday night, the Vancouver Canucks played their last game of their season-series against the Edmonton Oilers. This game took place in Edmonton, but Girls at the Games (GATG), CanucksArmy and Greta’s Bar YVR made sure you did not miss what was expected to be an action-packed game. GATG hosted their second ever watch party—first for the Vancouver Canucks—at Greta’s Bar, an amazing place to watch a hockey game. Greta’s Bar is located on the edge of Gastown in Downtown Vancouver. For some, that means you have to take the skytrain to get here, which goes directly past Roger’s Arena, making you feel as though it is a typical home game night.
Even if you do not go past the Canucks home-turf to get to Greta’s Bar, they do a great job of making you feel as though you are at Roger’s right in the action. They have a pull-down projector sheet giving watchers an up-close view of the action, along with TVs everywhere you look, ensuring you do not miss a moment of the game. Of course, no hockey game is complete without commentary and Greta’s Bar’s speakers provide you with your Canucks play-by-play, keeping you in the know.
Thursday’s puck-drop was at 6pm, right around dinner time. Greta’s Bar ensures that no matter what you are in the mood for, they have options for you. They have typical bar food, like burgers, wings, and nachos, but they also have other options like bowls. They also have a variety of non-alcoholic drinks and alcoholic drinks, including a cocktail for the Swifties called the “Lavender Haze.” They have clear labels on their menu telling you whether that item is spicy, vegan, vegetarian, or gluten-free. And if you are undecided on what you want, they even have stars next to certain items telling you that those are “Greta Favs.”
The Canucks did not come to play against the Oilers, being down 3-0 only 15 minutes into the first period. From there, the score only got worse. It was a hard game to watch, so if you didn't want to watch, but you didn't want to leave Greta’s, there were still many activities inside for you to do. They had a variety of arcade games for you to play and if you wanted to switch things up from hockey, they had a basketball free throw game! There were also raffles that you could enter, with any proceeds going to One Broken Biker. Some of the things you could win included signed memorabilia and hockey tickets!
One of my favourite things about that night was the photo booth! Girls at the Games had their own section to connect female Canucks fans, where bonds were formed. The photo booth was the perfect place to help commemorate this awesome evening (the event, not the Canucks loss) and the friendships that were made! If you are looking for a place to watch a Canucks game, Greta’s is a great choice!
